How to Cancel HBO Max in 2026

HBO Max's help center puts one step ahead of any cancel button: find out who bills you. Its subscription renews until you cancel it, and it says plainly that deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. Get the biller right and the rest takes a minute.
Step One: Find Out Who Bills You for HBO Max
Go to HBOMax.com/subscription and sign in. In the app on a phone, tablet, or computer, choose your profile and then Subscription. On a TV, choose the Settings icon and then Subscription. HBO Max shows who your subscription is billed through at the top of that screen. Only Adult profiles can manage subscriptions, so switch profiles if you don't see it.
How to Cancel HBO Max on the Web

These steps are for subscriptions billed by HBO Max itself (WarnerMedia), which usually means you signed up at HBOMax.com.
- Go to HBOMax.com/subscription and sign in. On a computer, you can also go to HBOMax.com, choose your profile, and then Subscription.
- Choose Cancel Your Subscription. No cancel option? Someone else bills you. Note the name at the top of the screen and find it in the third-party sections below.
- Confirm the cancellation and write down your expiration date.
- Watch for the confirmation email.
Timing matters here. HBO Max says to cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid another charge. If you change your mind before the expiration date, go back to Subscription and choose Resume Your Subscription.
How to Cancel HBO Max on iPhone or iPad
If Apple bills you, open the Settings app, choose your name, choose Subscriptions, then choose HBO Max and Cancel Subscription. Can't find it? Amazon
Amazon bills HBO Max two different ways. For the Amazon Appstore, go to amazon.com/appstoresubscriptions, find HBO Max under Your Subscriptions, and turn off auto-renewal. For Prime Video Channels, Amazon's current steps are Account & Settings, then Subscriptions, then Unsubscribe next to HBO Max. HBO Max's own article calls this Manage Your Prime Video Channels and Cancel Channel; it's the same place.
Roku
Go to my.roku.com/subscriptions and sign in, find HBO Max under Active Subscriptions, choose Manage subscription, then turn off auto-renew and confirm. Roku says you keep access until the billing cycle ends.
Hulu Add-On
If HBO Max is an add-on to your Hulu plan, go to hulu.com/account, select Manage Add-ons in the Your Subscription section, toggle HBO Max's checkmark to an X, and select Review Changes to confirm.
Phone, Internet, and TV Providers
HBO Max lists provider-specific routes for AT&T, Cox, DIRECTV, Optimum, Sling TV, Spectrum, Verizon, Xfinity, YouTube TV, Samsung, Xumo, and DoorDash. Two worth knowing: the Verizon myPlan perk is removed in the My Verizon app under Account, Plans, then Add or remove perks, and through DoorDash you keep streaming until your DashPass annual billing cycle ends. HBO Max also notes that Basic with Ads comes included with Spectrum's TV Select Signature and TV Select Plus packages, so there may be nothing to cancel.

- You keep streaming until the billing period ends. HBO Max says this for every biller in its article: you can stream until your subscription expires at the end of your billing period.
- Add-ons end with the base plan. Cancelling your base subscription also cancels your add-ons. If you have the Extra Member Add-On, it's cancelled when your base plan expires, you get a prorated refund for its remaining days, and your extra member loses access when your plan expires.
- Your profiles can come back. HBO Max says that if you resubscribe using your existing account, you'll have your profiles, My List, and watch history. It doesn't publish how long it keeps them, so don't count on a specific window.
Can You Pause HBO Max?
HBO Max's help center doesn't describe a pause option as of September 2026. The Resume Your Subscription button only undoes a pending cancellation before your expiration date; it isn't a pause.
